The shirts this year were designed by local artist and Sunnybrook Volunteer, Janée Vaughn.

Janée Vaughn Bio Photo

 Janée Vaughn was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, and she is of Barbadian parentage. She has been a visual artist from elementary school. Her drawings appeared in York University’s Xcalibur Black History Month editorials. In 1997, her illustrations were featured in Every Woman’s Almanac along side the inspiring personal stories of women from various cultures.

Janee’s winning piece, Three Faces One Sound, was inspired by her love of music. She drew inspiration from the genres of R&B, Jazz, Reggae and Soca. Janee acknowledges at various times throughout Black history, and in present day, music is a tool in the resistance, resilience, and triumph of the Black people in Africa and the diaspora.

The proceeds from the sale of this year's shirts will be used to support Sunnybrook’s partnership with The MINA Project, which aims to breakdown systemic barriers and bridge the skills, opportunities, and network gaps for equity deserving youth.
